TLC Frequently Asked Questions

1.    What are the school hours?

      a.  School hours are 8:05-2:45 Monday –Friday. Early release Wednesday’s are from 8:05 to 11:55 am.  As there is no school bus transportation, students arrive and depart school using various types of transportation.  Because of this, we understand city transportation and Access can sometimes be delayed. It is the students’ responsibility to contact their teacher and tell them that they will be out or late.  This is to encourage students to practice soft skills like communication, which is an important skill, especially in the area of employment.

2.    Lunch

     a.    All students can receive a free school provided lunch or bring their own lunch from home.
     b.    Students eating school prepared lunch will walk with staff to pick up their lunches from the Placerita Jr. High campus.
     c.    Refrigerators and microwaves are available for all students to use.

3.    Who is my teacher, do we have minimum days, and what days are we off?

        .
4.    What do I wear?

     a.    Remember students attending TLC are no longer in high school. Students are to wear age-appropriate clothing. (no shorts, tank tops, inappropriate graphic shirts, huge holes in pants). We want each student to be work-ready. Did you know it only takes a few seconds to make an impression? So how you dress definitely matters.
     b.    When you qualify for volunteering the dress code is as follows:
          i.    Nice top/shirt short or long sleeve, no graphics, pictures, or words);
ii.    Long pants (nice jeans or slacks, no shorts)
iii.    Shoes must be closed toes.

5.    Behavior:

     a.    Adult behavior is expected since students are on an adult campus.
          i.    If a student had an issue with someone at their high school, they should not bring the same problem to TLC. Staff is always available to help resolve any issues. Communication and problem resolution are important skills that will help students learn how to function in their daily life and at work.
ii.    If any student feels uncomfortable or has a problems with a peer, it is the students’ responsibility to inform staff. Staff will work with the students to find a resolution.
iii.    TLC shares the campus with Golden Oak Adult School (GO). Students who attend GO are adults from the community. TLC students need to behave as adults and if there are any problems, need to discuss the issue with their teacher.
iv.    There is minimal supervision on campus due to our IAs going off site to oversee volunteer sites with other students.  Therefore, communication and appropriate behavior is something we work on.  TLC expects each student to be responsible and considerate of others.
